The Velo Club de VIS is a lightweight (dis)organization that aims to encourage IEEE VIS participants to ride together following the conference.
After a few enjoyable bike rides with VIS colleagues over the years we marked IEEE VIS’ own Tour de France in 2014 by establishing an open and informal road cycling club as a post-VIS tradition. Here is how #LeTourDeVIS went in Paris.
We're going to keep this going in 2015 with TWO RIDES ...
FRIDAY 30th - Le Prologue - an afternoon exploring the Lakefront Trail at your own pace with VIS colleagues
A relaxed ride along the Lakefront Trail on Friday afternoon on Divvy bikes with plenty of stops will let cyclists experience two great things about Chicago -- the lake shore and the beer. This will be a casual, loosely organized ride at your own pace with recommended stops along the way at nearby pubs and other attractions. You do not need to own a pair of spandex shorts for this one. You do, however, need to be self-sufficient on a bike and with a map as there will not be an organized peloton. And you may want to wear Velo Club de VIS colours. If you are interested, please sign up.
Start anytime after 2pm and head to Hopleaf. Here are the stopping points.
SATURDAY 31st - Le Tour de VIS - a day in the VIS peloton on Road Bikes
An 80km group ride on road bikes along a pre-determined route that will take most of Saturday 31st. All you need to do to participate is comply with our straightforward Terms of Reference, get some miles in before VIS in October, and get a decent road bike to ride in Chicago. Follow the links to find out how to participate in Le Tour de VIS 2015 - you'll need to sign up for this one.
We’re planning for a ride of about 80km, starting from Bobby’s Bike Hike, heading south to the Southshore Cultural Centre, then heading North to Evanston for a quick lunch and a loop around the Northwestern University campus. Note that the route passes back by the starting point around kilometer 35, which provides a bail-out option for anyone who needs to leave early to make a flight.
Strava route and regrouping points.
